Passive safety poles for increased safety in traffic

Resilient masts can save lives

On roads where the desired speed is 50 km/h or higher, on roundabouts, at traffic signals and similar, compliant road equipment should be used within the safety zone.

At DAV NORDIC, we have a wide range of passive safety poles with different functions and compliance classes. Passive safety poles look like ordinary lighting poles, but they absorb part of the force in the event of a collision, making them indispensable for road safety.

Passive safety poles in steel

We have three compliant steel poles; SECURIMAT, octagonal conical and Protec Pole. They are all in the highest compliance classes, which means they are designed to bring the car to a full or partial stop while taking the occupants of the car into consideration.

Passive safety poles in aluminum

We also offer passive safety poles in aluminum. Our well-known MILEWIDE and ALU Round poles are also passive safety poles. MILEWIDE poles come in all safety classes and ALU Round is compliant class NE, which is especially useful in areas with few vulnerable road users.

Passive safety poles in aluminum

An aluminum pole not only increases road safety, but also looks great

DAV NORDIC's passive safety poles in aluminum, also known as ALU Round and MILEWIDE, are a sensible choice if you care about road safety, the environment, longevity and low maintenance.

In general, aluminum has many advantages over steel. For example, aluminum has a lower weight. This makes transportation, handling and installation much easier. Furthermore, it is extremely durable and can withstand very harsh environments such as waterfronts and coastlines. Aluminum also has a much higher recycling rate than when compared to steel.

With the right alloy, DAV NORDIC aluminum masts can last up to 40-50 years. This can be, for example, anodizing, which protects against corrosion. In addition, it is important to treat the pole underground to protect it from corrosion. This is done with the surface treatment "HDPE soil protection".

Long lifespan and stylish appearance

All our aluminum poles are available in a variety of looks. They are available in conical, stepped and cylindrical versions. They can be supplied in raw aluminum, anodized or in any RAL colour. If you choose anodizing, you get both an extended lifespan and a beautiful finish.

Resilient aluminum poles play a role in road safety. Because in the event of a collision between a car and a pole, they will absorb some of the force of the impact. There are three safety classes; HE, LE and NE.

The different safety classes have different purposes, but all increase road safety:

HE is the safety class where the car is slowed down as much as possible

LE brakes the car to a lesser extent. The LE class poles absorbs the impact more than it brakes the car.

HE and LE class poles are typically used in areas where there is a risk of hitting vulnerable road users,

The NE class is the safety class where the car is slowed down the least. NE poles are largely used in more open areas without too many vulnerable road users.

Protec Pole -  steelpole that increases traffical safety

A compliant steel pole with a beautiful finish and a focus on safety

The Protec Pole from DAV NORDIC is a round-conical steel pole that looks like a regular steel pole but plays an active role in road safety. The poles blend in seamlessly as they are stylistically indistinguishable and are also a good choice for locations with a high risk of collision between car and pole.

Protec Poles are made of hot-dip galvanized steel according to DS/EN ISO 1461 and are CE-marked based on load calculations according to EN 40-3-3-3, which means they can withstand Danish weather and wind conditions. Furthermore, they are CE-marked according to EN 12767 as compliant in the HE-70 C S NS BD class.

Protec Pole is compliant in the HE class, which means that in the event of a collision, it reduces the speed of the car in a controlled manner so that the collision does not cause too much damage to the people in the car. In the event of a collision, the pole will collapse around the car. The advantage of this is that in a collision, there are no flying or other loose pole parts that could injure others in the area.

Installation and foundation

Protec Pole must be installed on a cast concrete foundation placed 15-20 cm below ground level. In the event of a collision, the pole remains anchored to the foundation, making it easy to replace the pole after a collision. The fact that the pole remains anchored to the foundation also ensures that the pole does not cause further damage to the surroundings.

Good design and many possibilities for new expressions

Protec Poles are laser welded, leaving the pole with a smooth and almost invisible joint. All Protec Poles can be either powder coated or wet painted in a RAL color of your choice. The surface treatment is carried out according to EN 12499. It is also possible to have the Protec Pole delivered with a special topcoat, which with its anti-graffiti and anti-sticker surface is a good tool against vandalism. This ensures easy cleaning and low operating costs over the lifetime of the pole.

Protec Pole is also available as a combi pole, where it comes with two hatches. This offers the possibility to mount both lights and signal lanterns on the same pole, optimizing space usage and reducing costs.

SECURIMAT® passive safety poles in steel - A choice for high security

Passive safety poles increase road safety in the event of an accident and can prevent the accident from escalating

SECURIMAT poles from DAV NORDIC are the perfect solution in areas with a high risk of collision between cars and poles. They look similar to our standard conical steel poles, so the overall impression is maintained. However, these poles can do something completely different than the classic conical steel poles. They improve road safety in the event of an accident.

The poles are designed so that they do not leave the foundation in the event of a collision. This means that they slow down the car either completely or partially without harming others in the area (e.g. loose flying mast parts). SECURIMAT poles are HE-70 approved, which means that the pole can be used on all roads up to 70 km/h.

Technical specifications

The poles are manufactured in hot-dip galvanized steel according to DS/EN ISO 1461 and are CE marked with load calculations according to EN 40 regarding maximum top load and wind surface. In addition, they can be supplied with a special topcoat that is both anti-sticker and anti-graffiti, according to the ASTM D6578 standard, which ensures a long service life and low operating costs for operation and maintenance.

The SECURIMAT pole's foundation is what makes it special

SECURIMAT passive safety roundconical steel poles work by specially designed slots that yield on impact, causing the pole to fold around the car and slow it down. These slots are located underground. It is the combination of the design of the pole, the soil surrounding it and the foundation that makes the mast compliant. This also means that compliance varies depending on the type of soil. The poles are mounted on a concrete foundation 60 centimeters into the ground, which also makes it easy to replace the pole after a collision. The foundations can either be cast on site or delivered prefabricated.

SECURIMAT poles are the obvious choice if you want to provide users in the area with the best possible safety in the event of an accident, while maintaining a simple and uniform appearance by making the masts look like ordinary non-passive safety poles.

Passive safety octagonal conical steel poles - Poles for lighting

Steel poles that increase traffic safety while also serving as lighting poles

Octagonal steel poles  from DAV NORDIC are a passice safety pole, making them practical to use along roads, in roundabouts or at traffic lights. The great advantage of these passive safety poles are that they can help save lives and generally ensure greater road safety for both drivers and pedestrians.

It is possible to mount lighting fixtures on both the top and the arm, so the pole can be used as a lighting pole while also playing a major role in road safety. The pole has its own unique expression as it is octagonal, which gives a different experience than the classic poles with their more organic and round shapes.

Technical specifications

Passive safety octagonal steel poles are manufactured in hot-dip galvanized steel according to DS/EN 1461. The steel poles are available in heights between 6 and 12 meters, with a pole top of Ø48 mm x 240 mm. In addition, the poles are supplied with external hatches and foot flanges p c/c 250 mm and can be mounted on either steel or concrete foundations.
