DAV NORDIC, as the main contractor, managed the production, delivery, and installation of the noise barrier for ADP – Associated Danish Ports A/S. The project began in February 2021 and aimed not only to reduce noise from the port area but also to create a visually striking noise barrier using various materials that complement the surrounding environment. The client wanted an effective noise barrier that also visually resonated with the port area.

Noise reduction and aesthetic design combined

The detailed project was prepared and offered as a main contract by Sweco Architects, with Årstidernes Arkitekt responsible for the visual design of the barrier. Based on this, DAV NORDIC constructed a noise barrier featuring transparent sections, wooden slats, and lacquered cassettes, creating an appearance reminiscent of stacked containers.

With foundations reaching up to 20 meters deep and standing 10 meters high, the barrier is securely positioned along Holstensvej and Strandvejen in Fredericia. Its purpose is to reduce noise from port operations for nearby residents. Thanks to the transparent sections, locals can still enjoy views of the port’s activities.

Early completion despite challenges

Unpredictable soil conditions and the coastal climate posed significant challenges during construction. The barrier was built on an old seabed, complicating the installation process:

“Things rarely go exactly as planned, and this time it was the soil conditions. However, the challenge was quickly and constructively resolved without delays.”

Søren Møller Petersen, Construction Manager, ADP

Tight deadlines are common in construction, but this time the project exceeded expectations. The barrier was originally scheduled for completion in June 2021 but was finished in May 2021, two weeks ahead of schedule. This proactive approach highlighted the benefits of staying ahead of potential challenges.

“The collaboration with DAV NORDIC has been both professional and thorough. As the client, we appreciate DAV NORDIC’s proactive and detail-oriented approach. It gives us the time to carefully address challenges. When that also results in an early delivery, I certainly have no complaints,” concluded Søren Møller Petersen.
