Two identical noise barriers, totaling 2.1 km, reduce noise in the neighboring towns of Meløse and Kregme in North Zealand. Residents in the surrounding residential areas can now look forward to a quieter daily life.

The noise barriers were constructed as part of a main contract for the Danish Road Directorate. The project was initiated to reduce noise and disturbances from Amtsvejen in Meløse and Hillerødvej in Kregme. ISC Consulting Engineers A/S handled the project design, and the barriers consist of wooden slats and aluminum cassettes, with heights ranging from 4 to 6 meters.
In Kregme, the noise barrier runs through the entire town on both sides of Hillerødvej, while in Meløse, it stretches for the last kilometer out of town. Both barriers feature sound-absorbing cassettes and transparent panels. Certain design choices were made to minimize the barriers’ visual impact. The transparent panels were selected to avoid blocking light for neighbors, and the barriers were clad in wooden slats to give them a lighter appearance and allow plants to take root more easily.
The noise barriers had been requested by many residents in Kregme and Meløse. Project manager Frederik D. Jensen commented:
We’ve heard from several residents that they are happy with the barrier and can feel that it works. The weather has posed some challenges, but we’ve achieved our goals and are pleased to have been able to help the local community. Frederik D. Jensen, Project Manager, DAV NORDIC A/S

Due to an unusually wet autumn, the area was repeatedly flooded, creating challenges for the project. Drainage was necessary, and the water was diverted to a nearby drainage system, which was heavily burdened by the large volumes of water. The project required significant patience from both neighbors and DAV NORDIC, making the project’s completion a great satisfaction.
