Two New Path Systems in Silkeborg

Silkeborg Municipality is working to enhance the city’s infrastructure, and two new path systems have recently been established at Østre Bordingvej and Nordre Højmarksvej. These new paths aim to increase safety for both pedestrians and cyclists in areas experiencing higher traffic volumes due to new developments

Safety measures with pedestrian railings and guardrails

To ensure safe conditions for traffic, DAV NORDIC A/S, as a subcontractor, has installed several safety measures along the new paths. At Østre Bordingvej, approximately 40 meters of pedestrian railings have been installed. The railings are set up over the tunnel and along the side wings to protect both traffic participants and maintenance workers in the area. The railing system consists of solid posts with a sturdy pipe railing for maximum durability and safety.

At Nordre Højmarksvej, 110 meters of pedestrian railings have been installed. Here, sheet piles were driven into the ground, with the railing mounted on top of the sheet pile cap, as well as on top of a concrete tunnel and its side wings. Both areas have also been equipped with guardrails to protect against potential traffic accidents. In total, 160 meters of guardrails have been installed across both path systems, including end terminals.

Lighting for optimal traffic safety

To enhance safety on the new paths, 25 conical light poles, each 4 meters high, have been installed to ensure the areas are well-lit, especially during the darker hours. This provides both cyclists and pedestrians with better visibility and allows them to navigate safely along the paths. Many children and young people use these paths to and from school, so lighting along the paths and in the tunnels is an important safety feature.

Collaboration between multiple stakeholders

The project has been carried out in close collaboration between multiple stakeholders. Silkeborg Municipality is the project developer, while the contractor Gustav Christensen oversaw the work at Østre Bordingvej, and Vils Entreprenørforretning A/S was the contractor for Nordre Højmarksvej. DAV NORDIC acted as a subcontractor and was responsible for the installation of the railings, guardrails, and light poles.
