DAV NORDIC has delivered and installed 2 x 48 metres of H2W3 bridge parapets at Bjarkesvej as part of a project carried out close to an active railway. The project required high technical precision, careful planning and close collaboration with experienced partners. It was completed safely, efficiently and without disrupting rail traffic.

Working on infrastructure projects close to the railway involves not only stricter requirements for safety and planning. It also demands a high level of diligence, technical precision and strong cooperation. This was clearly demonstrated in a recent project in which DAV NORDIC was responsible for the delivery and installation of new bridge parapets on a bridge at Bjarkesvej.
A total of 2 x 48 metres of H2W3 bridge parapets were delivered and installed. Before installation could begin, existing bolt groups had to be removed and the edge beam repaired. At the same time, the work was carried out in close proximity to the railway, meaning that all activities had to be carefully planned with particular focus on safety and access conditions.
The existing bridge parapet was worn and needed replacement. First, the old bolt groups were removed, after which the edge beam was repaired to ensure it could support the new solution. This phase was carried out in cooperation with the contractor Ommen, who was responsible for repairing and refurbishing the edge beam.
Once the repairs were completed, DAV NORDIC drilled and bonded new bolt groups, which were used to secure the new H2W3 bridge parapet. This process required a high degree of precision and on-site adaptation – especially as the bridge is located directly above an active railway line.
“Working near the railway is always a challenge, as it involves very specific conditions. We have to consider safety, access and coordination with other stakeholders in the area,” says project manager Jesper B. Andersen.
For projects of this nature, it is crucial to have full control over safety protocols and permits. Brdr. Høgh I/S participated as a project partner. SR supervisor Brian Høgh was assigned responsibility for railway safety. He prepared and managed all necessary safety plans and also ensured the correct handling of equipotential bonding – both during dismantling and reinstatement.
Equipotential bonding is a technical task that goes beyond electricity and cables. It is a vital part of the electrical safety system surrounding the railway and must not be disrupted or compromised during construction work.
Safety is always our top priority, but when working close to the railway, it becomes even more critical that everyone knows exactly what to do. Brdr. Høgh and Ommen have been strong partners, and their contribution was essential in delivering a solution that is fully compliant both technically and in terms of safety Jesper B. The entire project was completed without any disruption to rail traffic and within the agreed timeframe. This was largely due to thorough planning and strong cooperation between all involved parties.
It is in complex projects like this that the strength of cross-disciplinary coordination becomes evident. By combining technical expertise with a strong focus on safety procedures and collaboration, the project was completed to a high standard without compromising occupational safety.
At DAV NORDIC, we have many years of experience in delivering and installing bridge parapets – including in complex and demanding environments where safety and coordination are critical. We offer both standard and customised solutions and always tailor our approach to the specific requirements of each project.
