The noise barrier is founded on steel pile foundations, and the barrier elements are of the Green Wall type – a type of noise barrier we frequently supply to our customers. To ensure low maintenance and a beautiful appearance, the barrier is clad with wooden slats, which also help to prevent graffiti.

A steel structure beyond the ordinary

The most extensive part of this project was the 76-ton steel portal on the bridge over Hammelvej – a major undertaking that required meticulous planning and collaboration from everyone involved.
The portal measures 50 meters in length, 2.5 meters in width, and 0.7 meters in height, with a total weight of 76 tons. It is supported by five intermediate supports and four bored piles, each 8 meters deep – in total, nearly 300 tons of concrete were used for the foundations.

Our project manager for the portal, Christoffer H. Jensen, explains:

The portal is necessary to transfer the forces from the noise barrier down into the ground. And in fact, it’s the Road Directorate’s largest steel portal to date

Christoffer H. Jensen, Project Manager DAV NORDIC A/S

The portal was essential for enabling the noise barrier to extend across the road.

Complex project solved through close collaboration

Both projects were carried out for the Danish Road Directorate. For the noise barrier and the portal, COWI acted as consultant for the Road Directorate, while we worked closely with ISC Consulting Engineers on both structures.
We also collaborated efficiently with a number of subcontractors: Kølkær Entreprenør, Ivan Jakobsen Entreprenør A/S, CJ Anlæg, LN Stål og Montage, PL Klejnsmedie, and Bøgedal Skovbrug.

Our project manager for the noise barrier, Frederik D. Jensen, also speaks positively about the cooperation:

The project has run very smoothly through close interaction between skilled clients, consultants, and subcontractors. Together, we have solved complex challenges and achieved a fantastic result – to the great benefit of the many residents in Vorup.

Two new noise barriers in Randers in 2025

With the new noise barrier and portal at Vorup, we continue our efforts to reduce noise levels around Randers. After the summer holidays, we delivered another noise barrier benefiting residents living close to the busy E45 motorway.

We greatly appreciate being part of these projects that make a real difference for many people.
