890 bicycle parking spaces create order and functionality in Herlev

DAV NORDIC has delivered a flexible bicycle parking solution for Hørkær 8 in Herlev, providing 890 spaces including custom-designed covered areas. The project combines functionality, capacity and aesthetics in seamless alignment with the building’s architecture.

In connection with the new construction at Hørkær 8 in Herlev, DAV NORDIC has delivered a comprehensive and versatile solution for bicycle parking. The solution is designed to match the area’s open residential structure, where the apartments are arranged around shared courtyards and green orangery spaces. Here, the bicycle parking plays a crucial role in supporting residents’ daily mobility.

A total of 890 bicycle parking spaces have been established throughout the development. Of these, approximately 50–60 spaces are covered under four custom-made shelters constructed in galvanized steel with thermo roofing, while the majority of bicycle racks are placed freely in the open courtyard environment.

A flexible solution with large capacity

To meet both space requirements and accessibility, two-tier bicycle racks have been used. The bicycles are positioned alternately at regular height and at an elevated level, creating significantly more capacity within the same amount of space—without compromising functionality. The racks are installed on steel frames and adapted to allow both straight and angled parking depending on their location in the area.

In addition, bicycle rails for cargo bikes have been installed, reflecting the increasing use of these among residents in urban housing areas. All components are designed with a focus on simplicity, durability and high usability.

Materials suited for the Danish climate

The four shelters are made from hot-dip galvanized steel, ensuring high corrosion resistance and long lifespan—even in open and wind-exposed environments. The thermo roof provides solid protection against both rain and snow, while the visual expression is kept simple and discreet, blending naturally into the surroundings.

Installation in six stages – with attention to detail

The bicycle parking solution was delivered over six stages, in parallel with the housing development, and DAV NORDIC handled the entire supply – including installation. The ongoing planning and phased execution required both coordination and flexibility, which was achieved through close dialogue with the main contractor NCC and the other trades on site.
