Less noise for the residents of Rødovre

DAV NORDIC has now completed the 2 km long noise barrier along Motorway Ring 3 in Rødovre, with the Danish Road Directorate as the client. A long-awaited noise barrier that residents living close to the heavily trafficked motorway have been looking forward to for years

The first groundbreaking took place in October 2024 with Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen, Business Minister Morten Bødskov, and the Mayor of Rødovre Municipality, Britt Jensen. Since then, DAV NORDIC has worked closely with ISC Consulting Engineers A/S and subcontractors Brdr. K. Hansen, Stub & Gren, and Systemafspærring to bring the project to completion.

A wish fulfilled: Traffic noise reduced for Rødovre residents

The project has focused on creating peace and quiet for the many residents who, for years, have wished for a noise barrier to reduce the nuisance from one of Denmark’s most trafficked roads.

DAV NORDIC has supplied an absorptive noise barrier that effectively reduces disturbing traffic noise. The barrier features an open surface that allows sound to penetrate and be absorbed by the internal insulating material. This type of barrier is particularly suited to urban areas like Rødovre, where traffic noise reduction is highly needed.

The barrier is horizontally divided into three green shades, creating a visually balanced expression. Wooden trellises are mounted on both sides at a height of 2.1 meters, adding an aesthetic element and supporting potential vegetation.

The color scheme of this noise barrier was also chosen with care.

New noise barrier unites city and nature with care

Behind the barrier lies Vestvolden. Vestvolden, which stretches nearly 15 kilometers through the municipalities of Hvidovre, Brøndby, Rødovre, and Copenhagen, is a protected military fortification built in the late 1800s as part of Copenhagen’s defense. Today, the rampart functions as a green recreational area, where paths and historical structures provide space for both exercise and experiences.

The new noise barrier behind Vestvolden in Rødovre Municipality contributes to preserving the tranquility of the area by dampening surrounding traffic noise—with respect for both nature and cultural heritage.

Strong collaboration from the first groundbreaking

From the start of the project, strong collaboration has been essential to realizing the noise barrier at Vestvolden. DAV NORDIC has worked closely with ISC Consulting Engineers A/S as advisor, and with a number of experienced subcontractors including Brdr. K. Hansen, Stub & Gren, and Systemafspærring. Each party has contributed its expertise, ensuring the work has been carried out efficiently, safely, and with high quality. The collaboration has been characterized by flexibility and a shared understanding of both the technical requirements and the project’s importance to the local community.

This has been a truly exciting project with both technical challenges and great solutions, completed within a relatively short construction period. The collaboration with the client has been close and constructive throughout. In a construction process like this, questions and challenges naturally arise, and that’s why close cooperation with the client is absolutely crucial to the success this project has become.

Guardrails, bridge railings, and parapets

In addition to the noise barrier, DAV NORDIC has also been responsible for the delivery and installation of 85 meters of parapets, 90 meters of bridge railing, and approximately 2 km of guardrail.
