DAV NORDIC has won and completed the project to deliver and install shelters with solar panels at the four fast-charging stations located at the Lillebælt North and South rest areas, as well as Tappernøje East and West. The charging stations are part of the “Infrastructure Plan 2035.”

The Danish Road Directorate is in 2023 working on expanding an even better charging infrastructure along Danish roads across the country. This initiative falls under the now well-known “Infrastructure Plan 2035.” One of the first projects launched was the expansion of four existing rest areas. These were enlarged to make space for covered charging stations with a total of 84 charging spots. It is the covers for these charging stations that we have designed, installed, and delivered.
For this project, price was not the only competitive parameter. A range of sub-criteria, including design and aesthetics, maintenance costs, and the efficiency of the solar panels, were also considered in the overall evaluation. The responses to these sub-criteria, along with the presentation of the production-ready project, were submitted to the Danish Road Directorate in a written proposal.
DAV NORDIC, in partnership with the leading solar panel contractor, Solar Polaris, won the project with their choice of a maintenance-free and harmonious steel construction.
It was a key architectural principle for the parties involved to design a structure that highlights and complements the functionality of the covered charging park.
Therefore, the solar panels are not merely a part of the structure but have been integrated into a visible and functional element of the cover, as they serve as the final roofing feature. The solar panels are visible both from a distance and while standing under the cover.
The cover structure itself is built as a Y-shaped galvanized steel construction. The design focuses on clean lines and an understated lightness, ensuring the structure appears harmonious and calm.
The primary design element of the cover is the solar panel roof. The panels consist of two layers of tempered glass (2 mm thick) with the solar cells in between. The finished product is comparable to safety glass and is suitable for roofing.
Across all four charging parks, a total of 1,570 m² of solar panels have been installed, which means it is expected that all four charging parks will deliver an estimated 5.5 million kWh over 20 years.
The charging parks at Lillebælt South and North were inaugurated on March 31, 2023, where we provided covers for the charging stations as well as standalone covers for parking. We started the project in the fall of 2022 and were responsible for the design, installation, and setup.
We offer a wide range of covers where both functionality and roofing materials vary. We can deliver covers for charging stations, parking, bicycles, and walkways. Additionally, they can be equipped with thermal roofs, sedum roofs, or solar panels. You can read more here.
